Young PR Agency wins national education 'disrupter' You Be You

Newcomer Steele Public Relations Limited has secured client account – You Be You – and will be lending its expertise in inequality to help the nation-wide social enterprise further ‘disrupt’ the UK education sector.

You Be You successfully entered the market in 2021, and has grown its impact now working with 10 primary schools across the country, already improving the life chances of 2,317 pupils in areas of serious deprivation and supporting 657 devoted teachers.

Research shows from the age of just 5, children start forming and adhering to gender stereotypes, with girls feeling less talented and intelligent than boys. Boys lack this awareness, and are less likely to express their emotions, leading to higher suicide rates in men under 45.

Managing Director of Steele Public Relations Limited, Beverley Walkden, said: “CEO and founder of You Be You, Bilkis Miah, demonstrates a passionate ambition to this generation of young people, one that aligns with our own values to practice PR that has clarity of purpose and provides positive growth for our communities. I very much look forward to working with her and the team.

“As part of Steele’s mission to grow You Be You’s digital footprint we will be supplying the team with their own dedicated Account Manager and Social Media Manager to create content that speaks to decision makers, such as schools, council leaders and MPs.

“We look forward to being part of this swift growth initiative and would urge any prospective partners to step forward and get involved early and help us bring this organisation’s great work into schools up and down the country.

“Bilkis is rising swiftly as a thought leader in this field and pairs this personal passion with a professional determination that sees her listed in the top 100 female entrepreneurs in the country. *

Bilkis, said: “I am looking forward to working with Beverley and the team and look forward to working alongside them with their expertise handling the media, running big campaigns and creating content that counts.

“Too many schoolchildren are still suffering low self-esteem and reduced chances to thrive because of the colour of their skin, their gender or where they are being brought up and the Government alone cannot tackle this. They simply don’t have the life skills they need to thrive in their future both personally and professionally.  There is a massive gap in our education system and we’re here to change that.

“We will be running awareness campaigns and asking local authorities and businesses to sponsor a school where diversity and inclusivity is an issue, truly challenging them to put their money where their mouth is.”

Further research shows that by age 7 children are already limited by gender, class and race. Only 13% of the STEM workforce is female, and only 11.4% of nurses are male – a direct result of these limitations.

You Be You creates engaging Early Years KS1& KS2 lessons to break stereotypes and embed diversity and inclusion. Teachers have been delivering You Be You’s set of fun, research-informed, cross-curricular lessons to year 1 classes.  Created by teachers for teachers, the lesson plans are backed by research and best practice.
